次の英文を読んで、後の設問に答えなさい。A gap year is a year that starts after inishing high school and before entering college or university. It is popular in some countries, but not popular in other countries. The gap year is a time when young high school graduates can have time to travel and see the world and gain experience before starting their studies. But not all young people travel. It is also a time when they can gain experience being a volunteer or doing an internship at a company.
Many business owners have supported the gap year because new workers come to the company with experience and conidence*. Gap year students can also work at a company before going to college, so they know what to expect and are better able to do their job.
University professors have also seen the good points of a gap year. Students who volunteer or travel have a better idea of what they want to study. They can also be more motivated to study after a one year break.
Although taking a gap year in the United Kingdom is common, this is not the case everywhere in the world. In Japan it is rare because students are encouraged to always study hard and often start working before they graduate. The idea is gaining popularity in the United States but it does not have a long history there.
The gap year can give students experience and a sense of responsibility but not all societies think it is important. Students should carefully consider the advantages and disadvantages before deciding to take a year of.
